Sarah Palin: The Gift that Keeps on Giving
One of the least covered aspects of Sarah Palin is that she almost exclusively appears before crowds of far-right voters in communities that are solidly Republican. The New York Times finally addressed this on October 7, describing how those attending Palin’s Florida rallies were among the less than 25% of the population that thinks George W. Bush is doing a good job.BeyondChron: San Francisco's Alternative Online Daily News » Sarah Palin: The Gift that Keeps on Giving
Palin is rallying this conservative base not to elect McCain, which even she knows is now a lost cause, but to position herself and her ideology at the center of a newly constituted Republican Party. This explains her increasingly incendiary attacks on Obama, which hurt McCain but help position Palin at the center of the post-2008 Republican Party. ...

Semi-intelligent Apes
I don’t know what’s going to become of this country if we have to put up with another 4-8 years of Republicans. I used to think that a balance of power between the legislative and executive branch was a good idea. Then I saw what truly unscrupulous people can do when they have the power to pass and sign laws. With no checks and balances, there is little to protect us from whatever they think is a good idea — and in the case of Republicans that usually means a good idea for the privileged.
I’m continually amazed about the things that skilled politicians are able to put across on their constituents and still leave them with the idea that they give a shit. All politicians are liars to one degree or another, and anyone who says they aren’t is a ridiculous caricature of a thinking person regardless of their affiliation. But the NeoCons are in a class by themselves.
They are masterful at triggering the Them Or US response. That’s the whole secret. In a world that is being destroyed by tribalism, they are the 21st Century tribal elders, backed up by the shamans and supported by an ill-educated cadre of people who ought to be able to look at their own sorry lives and know better.
The planet will be better off without us, but I’m afraid all those folks who expect to be extracted through their sunroofs are in for an unpleasant surprise, especially when they find they’ve been sold a bill of goods about the hereafter and all those rewards.
Truly, you can give the ape a big brain, but he’s still an ape.
Those who deviate too far from the norm become Democrats.

Make-Believe Maverick
This is the story of the real John McCain, the one who has been
hiding in plain sight. It is the story of a man who has consistently
put his own advancement above all else, a man willing to say and do
anything to achieve his ultimate ambition: to become commander in
chief, ascending to the one position that would finally enable him to
outrank his four-star father and grandfather.

Next Time You're In Reykjavik
I never thought of them as being logical; quite single-minded, it seems to me.
Canned O.J. -- and damned well time!
This sorry piece of merde should have been in jail for the past 13 years. It's about time his sociopathic lifestyle is put paid.

MY HOLIDAY WITH JOHN McCAIN
After putting some research into the provenance of this article, I find too many questions about its origin, and have been unable to uncover anything that supports its authenticity. Neither have Snopes.com, who list it as "Undetermined." That is not good enough for someone who, while not my kind of guy, has served this country faithfully for many years.
Although I remain a staunch supporter of Senators Obama and Biden and find the possibility of Senator McCain and Governor Palin getting into the White House to be absolutely chilling, I must, nonetheless, apologize to the senator, his supporters and to you for having posted it without checking more carefully. This is precisely the kind of character assassination we have come to expect from the "other side," and I regret having been an unwitting party to it.
Where the heck did "hone in" come from?
One "homes in" on things, as does a homing pigeon or a missile. One "hones" one's skills, or one's argument, as in honing (sharpening) a knife blade. One would not say "I sharpened in on the target." Nor would one say "I homed the knife to a razor edge." Not even in Alabama.
I know this will have no effect, but I feel much better now that I've honed in on this problem.
The Palin Payoff: How Sarah Brings in the Christian Cash
Until John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate, Obama attack ops -- whether political action committees or their 501(c)4 partners -- were struggling mightily to raise the kind of cash that fueled the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth smear machine in 2004.The Palin Payoff: How Sarah Brings in the Christian Cash
More than $45 million poured into that effort to sink John Kerry's campaign, mainly from the pockets of wealthy Bush backers. A review of Federal Election Commission (FEC) campaign donations back in June of this year showed that the big Swift Boat donors -- such as Ohio investor Carl H. Lindner and family, Dallas pharmacy magnate Harold C. Simmons, Texas homebuilder Bob Perry and oilman T. Boone Pickens -- were putting their money elsewhere, either pouring it directly into the McCain campaign or sending it off to Republican Congressional races, the Republican Governors Association or Newt Gingrich's PAC, American Solutions.
But all that changed when the evangelical pro-life Alaska governor stepped up to the podium in Minneapolis to accept the Republican nomination for vice-president.
Awwww!
With the vice presidential candidates set to square off today in their only scheduled debate, public assessments of Sarah Palin's readiness have plummeted, and she may now be a drag on the Republican ticket among key voter groups, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.Skepticism of Palin Growing, Poll Finds - washingtonpost.com

Trusting Governor Palin
The presidency is different from any other job in the Federal government, in that there are few real checks and balances regarding matters such as these. A religious bigot in the congress is no big deal -- we have, and have had, many. There, however, there are opportunities for their effects to be moderated by the rest of the legislative body. With a president or vice president (who must be presumed, for the purposes of this discussion, to be president), that moderating influence does not exist.
These things were taken for granted for the first 180 years. Only in 1960, when the first Catholic ran for president, did the issue arise. JFK said, loudly and publicly, that he would not let his religious beliefs conflict with his presidency, the public believed it, and events showed that he in fact did not.
The matter came up again during the Reagan candidacy, raised that time by the religious right in support of a candidate whom they believed -- correctly -- would support their causes. Then they brought the full power of both their political and propaganda apparatus to the table with George (Little George) Bush, preferring to see trashed the very separation of church and state that they used to their advantage so effectively during the campaign, in favor of a future theocracy. They brought, as well, a totally reprehensible refusal to repudiate the dirty tricks of the NeoCons who were using them for their own purposes. Very Christian, if you believe in justified Christianity, but not to most of us.
Now the question is, will the tricks work again and, if they do, what can we expect from the results? (Look for an "October Surprise," courtesy of the Republicans, with support from the now-quiescent Shrub.) Frankly, I really don't know enough about Sarah Palin's character to trust her, especially given her penchant for never giving a straight answer to a question -- even if you could trust the media to ask the right ones.
McCain might not be too bad, but the governor scares the crap out of me. It's pretty clear that she's no Jack Kennedy.

NEW YORK,
New York, September 27, 2008 (ENS) - "I believe we've reached the

Global Initiative annual meeting this week at the Sheraton New York. Gore
